High School Science Lab Equipment

High school science lab equipment can make the difference between a student that takes an interest in a science based subject such as chemistry or one that ultimately considers it a waste of time. For me, the laboratory portion of my high school chemistry course was always the most fun. Listening to the teacher as we walked through the experiment was always a fascinating experience. Fortunately, our high school was equipped with a complete set of high school science lab equipment, namely, chemistry lab equipment.

We were equipped with everything we needed such as beakers and flasks as well as glass stirring rods and porcelain crucibles. Additionally, we had Bunsen burners as well as mass balances and weigh boats so that we could weigh out salts and volumetric flasks so that we could prepare solutions and standards. On occasions, we would set up stands, clamps and rings so that we could create unique experiments. This made learning much easier because we could actually see what we were learning in action. Watch the solutions change color as we titrated was always a fascinating experience and still is to this day.

Of course, we always made safety priority-one when in the lab. First and foremost, we always wore safety goggles to help protect our eyes from any spills and splashes that may have occurred. Additionally, we always wore a lab coat to protect not only our skin from the potentially irritating solutes and solvents that we were working with but also our clothes. On some occasions, mysterious holes would appear in my clothes when they were washed. A lab coat will help prevent this.

In addition to safety goggles and lab coats we would also use chemical resistant gloves to protect our hands from any splashes. Additionally, the gloves would help protect our hands from the salts that were on the edges of the bottles that we were weighing out.

Finally, we wore the appropriate respirators as specified by the MSDS's of the chemicals that we were working with to help prevent us from breathing in any potentially irritating fumes.

Working in a high school science lab was lots of fun and I have very fond memories of it. If we hadn't had the appropriate high school science lab equipment in our lab, I would have never taken an interest.
