High School Seniors and Financial Aid
In 2009 and 2010 students were and are expected to receive somewhere between $160 and $180 billion dollars in awarded scholarships
. Nearly everyone is eligible to receive scholarships, especially in categories determined by merit. The application for scholarships and other government based financial aid is free to complete and most colleges allow students to audition and submit themselves for merit scholarships for free, just be aware that there is usually an application fee to actually apply to the college itself. This application fees can add up, especially when shopping around for colleges. Normally, this application and any auditions and submissions for merit based scholarships are completed in January the year before a student attends the college or university. If the student is approved, they are normally notified in late March or April. It is very common for one student to get more than one scholarship, depending on their abilities and need. For instance it is very common for a student to receive a scholarship for their grade point average as well as a scholarship for baseball and yet another for financial need. Scholarships are often the only way some students are able to go to college, so they play a vital role in the education of the country.
