Geneva, New York is located at the north end of Seneca Lake in Ontario and Seneca Counties

. It is about an hour's drive from Rochester in what is called the Finger Lakes Region of New York. Established in 1793 by the Pulteney Association, the town of Geneva is home to 11 buildings on the National Registry of Historic Places. A visit to these homes, landmarks and wineries makes for a world-class romantic getaway.

The Prouty-Chew House, circa 1829, is located on South Main Street. This Federal-style home was built by Charles Butler, a prominent attorney in Geneva. With original styling and Victorian furniture, the former home now serves as a museum. Rotating exhibits and period clothing can be found on display, with rich town history around every corner.

The Belhurst Castle Resort is celebrating its 120th year in Geneva, providing romance and elegance for couples looking to experience the history of the region. Three distinct hotels on the property offer cathedral ceilings, dark woodwork and gorgeous lake views. Each of these locations offers guest rooms with unique style and history alongside their private winery.

The Rose Hill Mansion, circa 1839, is one of the best examples of Greek Revivalist architecture in America. 21 of the 26 rooms are furnished in the Empire style, which is nearly impossible to see in the U.S. Large white pillars welcome guests while the breathtaking view of Seneca Lake can be taken in from the front porch. Tours of this home can be given to couples or large groups during much of the year.

Geneva on the Lake Resort was originally built in 1914. The magnificent interior includes marble fireplaces, elegant tapestries and a romantic feel. In 1981, this Finger Lakes vacation spot opened as a resort for newlyweds, history buffs and travelers seeking a relaxing oasis. Their luxurious suites have received the AAA Four-Diamond award for 27 years, and include everything from fireplaces and romantic balconies to Jacuzzi tubs and cathedral ceilings. The resort's 10 acres are a perfect spot not only for a couple's retreat, but also for a wedding, reception or large celebration.

The nearby city of Seneca Falls is home to the Women's Rights National Historic Park and the National Women's Hall of Fame. The Finger Lakes region has many historic homes, monuments, landmarks and other bits of Americana that will make a memorable trip for history buffs wanting to see a lesser-known corner of U.S. history.
