History of Virginia

Lexington is the second largest city located in the Bluegrass Region of Kentucky

. It was founded in June 1775 in the then Virginia (17 years prior to Kentucky becoming a state in 1792). The town of Lexington was formally formed on May 6, 1782 by an act of the Virginia General Assembly.

Virginia is a state in the southern United States, with a coast on the Atlantic Ocean. The state is named after Queen Elizabeth I of England who was known known as the "Virgin Queen" because she never took a husband.

More Civil War battles were fought in Virginia than any other state. Humpback Rocks is an 800 acre park with various hiking and bicycling opportunities. The visitor center is located at milepost 5.8 and features a working 19th century Appalachian farmstead. Boating access is available at nearby Sherando Lake.

Virginia was one of the original thirteen colonies which revolted against Britain during the American Revolution (1775 to 1783), and has played an important part in the history of the United States. The state is sometimes known as the "Mother of Presidents", having produced more Presidents than any other state: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe, William Henry Harrison, John Tyler, Zachary Taylor and Woodrow Wilson.

The Blue Ridge Mountains and the Chesapeake Bay play a major role in determining the climate and the geography of the state. Over the years, Virginia has grown and prospered into one of the richest states in the country with a diversity ranging from the culture to the climate.

Virginia has a wildly diverse population. In recent years it has see enormous influxes of both Asians and Hispanics. Northern Virginia currently has the largest Vietnamese population on the East Coast and this influence can be seen in many of Virginias great restaurants. Virginia is known for its festivals and state fairs, and in recent years has seen many new annual traditional pop up that celebrate the heritage of it's diverse population.

Today, the Fredericksburg region is a rapidly expanding commercial center point of Northern and Central Virginia - all while maintaining its rich American history and southern charm. The city's museums and 18th century buildings highlight its past and attract tourists. Points of interest include the homes of Betty and Mary Washington, the Hugh Mercer apothecary shop, the Kenmore Plantation and the James Monroe law office museum.

The city of Virginia Beach lies along the seashores of Atlantic Ocean and Chesapeake Bay. Visiting Virginia Beach is a great way of hanging out during your weekend getaways or spending some time with a person who is near and dear to you. The slogan of the city is 'Virginia is for lovers' as it is one of the most favorite spot for couples and for the people who are young in heart.
