A lot of people think that solar energy has relatively very short history. It is because people are now dedicating their efforts to find those sources of energy which are renewable. Moreover, we witnessed the first severe energy crisis in the year 1970. So we can say that people started to find such resources in the 1970s. However, in reality the history of solar energy extends way back to late the 1830s. In the year 1830, Edmund Becquerel published his research that how light can be converted into energy. However, his ideas were not put to place in that era. Another interesting fact about solar energy is that in the 1860s, French scientist Augusted Mouchout received money in the shape of funds to search and find the new sources of energy.

Mouchout invented such a motor which was able to run on the solar energy along with producing a steam engine, running on solar power. Moreover, he also introduced such a machine which even produced ice using solar energy. This machine consisted of a refrigeration device.

William Adams also contributed in this field by inventing a steam engine which used sun as a main source to run during the 1870s. It is really interesting to note that the design created by him is still in work today. His invention is called the power tower concept.

In the year 1883, Charles fritz converted the sun rays coming directly from the sun into electricity. In late the 1880s, Charles Tellier installed such a system in his house which was used to heat the water at home. His concept is still used in our lives in the shape of water geysers.

It was not until the 1950s when Gerald Pearson and Calvin Fuller along with their team invented the working of silicon as a semi conductor and these semi conductors are now the main source of preparation of the solar energy panels and modules. So, we can say that in the year 1954, we were introduced to the devices of solar energy. However, it's the time to use solar energy in the future so; we must pay heed to using it for our commercial and domestic uses.
