Home Brew And Wine Making Equipments- Some Basics

People who do not belong from alcoholic community do not know the meaning of home brew properly

. For them I would like to clear it that home brew is just an alcoholic beverage just like beer made at home. These home brewed wines are often regarded as country wines just because of the fact that ingredients of it are generally obtained from the plants and trees of countryside.

Basics of winemaking are important to know for a person who wants to brew the beer at home. There are basically 3 stages involved in the Home brewing process of wine that are as follows;

1.Extract the flavors from the ingredients

2.Fermentation


3.Maturation and bottling process.

Extracting the flavors from ingredients-

These days the wines that are commercially available are made from undiluted grape juice with little percentage of sugar added in it. Homebrew wines contain such a strong flavor inside that pure undiluted juice would produce an unpleasant taste in compare to them. So, the extracted juice from fruit will be diluted down with water to make a suitable concentration and sugar should also be dissolved properly. After this, some yeast will be added so that fermentation process can be started.

Fermentation- its a natural process which will be carried by several kinds of fungi, bacteria, molds and yeasts. Sugar can be used as food by yeasts by two ways. In aerobic conditions yeasts generates a large colony of cells and digest the sugar completely while in anaerobic conditions yeast does not generate other cells of yeast that quickly and sugar can be only partially digested by yeasts and carbon dioxide and alcohol will be generated as byproducts of this process. So the fermentation process will complete in two stages in which first stage will allow yeast to build a strong colony and second will produce much quantity of alcohol.

Maturation is the final process of storing the wine for some time in a suitable storage to make it more tasteful. Storing the home brew wine will allow the flavors to mellow and ingredients to settle down so that they can react with each other.

Wine making equipments are the tools which you will be required to have while brewing the wine at your home and most of the wine making equipments will be such which you will be able to find in your kitchen. Here is the list of some wine making equipments which will be required to have;

1.A white bucket of hard plastic of 2 gallon,

2.A wooden spoon,

3.A large un-chipped enamel pan of aluminum or stainless steel,

4.a medium and a fine nylon mesh sheet for straining the must,


5.A fermenting vessels of 1 gallon capacity of plastic or glass,

6.A second demijohn for storage; suitable bottles and stoppers for the finished wine and

7.Four feet (1.5 meters) of nylon or plastic tubing for siphoning the wine from one container to another when fermentation is over.
