"Making over your home is fun. The shopping is the most fun part of it all but just like any other stuff there is also a not-so-fun part in re-decorating your house. It is the cleaning of the house that makes it very tedious. But there is a way or a technique on how to clean your house without spending too much time and money on this:

1. Start by sorting your things. Start at your bedroom. The hardest part is cleaning your closet since some people are afraid to let go their personal stuff like their shoes, neckties, expensive blouses and bags even if they have not used it for over a year or two now. The rule in cleaning up a closet is to have your spouse or daughter clean it up for you.

2. Donate all unused or those items which you will not be using anymore to a charity. If you have time you can schedule a garage sale.

3. In cleaning your kitchen you should take out all the stuff in your cabinets and drawers. It is also the best time to check the expiration date of the products. Do not have second thoughts in keeping products which have expired or those which are already too dirty to use. Like, a brush...the best way to know if a floor brush is still clean enough to use is to simply look at it. Throw the brush if its bristles are already flat or has discolored.

4. If you are planning to re-paint your walls or maybe put on a new wallpaper, place all of your things in one room to prevent it from getting soiled by paint splashes.

5. When you clean up the floor, take out your floor carpet. Have it dry cleaned or washed if you still want to use it before stacking it in the attic.

When cleaning your house, ask the help of your family, this is the best way for you guys to bond. Assign chores to each family member to make things easier. When going shopping it would be best to schedule it on weekends, when everyone is free or has no appointments. Do not forget to shop for good luck charms like a ceramic rooster for your kitchen. It is said that Portugal roosters bring in peace and happiness. You can also place a magnetic rooster as a decor on your refrigerator or a metallic rooster on top of your fireplace.
