, near the beginning of homeopathic medical treatment. Conventional doctors, led by the American Medical Association, did not appreciate this uninvited competition. They waged a national campaign to disgrace homeopathic doctors and not allow them to remain members of local medical societies. This campaign succeeded in every state, except of Massachusetts.
It seems that homeopathy had been embraced by elites, the world over, and the Boston elites threw their support behind the homeopathic physicians. The tradition of elite families using homeopathy is ongoing currently, especially in royal families. Queen Elizabeth will not travel without homeopathic remedies and a lot of people believe that the reason her mother lived to be 101 years old, had a lot to do with a life of homeopathic health care.
Attacks from the world of conventional medicine never let up. They became more organized and well funded and the media began to join in as well. (They continue to this day.) This led, not to the downfall of homeopathy, but the suppression of it and a greatly reduced role in terms of the numbers of people whose health has been helped.
Homeopathy did rebound after the original attack in the 1800's, to the point of the early 1900s, where they had twenty two medical schools, more than a hundred hospitals, and 1000 + pharmacies. The way things were going, if there had been no smears and attacks, it would have only been a matter of time before homeopathy would be, by far, the most popular choice of health care in the United States.
Here are some facts: Conventional medicine, or, allopathy, is based on the Law of Opposites. Homeopathy is based on the Law of Similars. Allopathy focuses on suppressing symptoms and not addressing their causes, while the focus of homeopathy is, finding the cause of illness, and addressing it. For example, when you have a headache, the conventional medical approach is to stand in the way of feeling the pain, while doing nothing to deal with what may be creating the discomfort. The homeopathic approach is to find the best natural remedy that addresses the likely cause of the pain, which stops it, rather than prevents you from feeling it.
You do not fix the problem, simply by suppressing the symptoms of the problem. In fact, what you end up doing, is creating bigger issues. Pharmaceutical drugs are designed not to cure illness, but to mask symptoms. All drugs are toxic and they all cause side effects. Doctors often end up prescribing more drugs to deal with the side effects of the last one -- which you are still required to take, or else, the symptoms they are masking will reappear. Of course, the new drugs will cause more side effects, and a vicious cycle is created. On the other hand, there are no toxic side effects to any homeopathic remedy, and they cost pennies for a dose, and you usually don't need many doses. Homeopathic physicians also cost just a fraction of the rate of conventional doctors.
The philosophy of homeopathy is that the body has an intelligence, a vital force, and the body can get back to proper health, by working with the intelligent force. The emphasis is on the force and on the person as a complete being. Conventional medicine snickers at talk of a force or intelligence of the body; and it focuses on disease and illness, and breaks things down into separate bits and pieces, rather than viewing the person as a whole.
