Honest Marketing Or an Affiliate Con?

Honest Marketing Or an Affiliate Con?
I can't help wondering if we're all simply doing a spot of tail-chasing, like crazy mutts, in the way we chase new trends and follow the latest young expert who tells us if we do exactly like he does, we can also earn millions (not just hundreds, mind, but millions) and live the good life like he allegedly does... nobody is really sure because nobody has seen it... as with many of today's new, young experts, we must just take their word for it.
And I can't help wondering if it were that easy, why aren't there more millionaires now? What happened to all those who've tried and quietly slunk away into their holes of disillusionment?
When it comes to marketing there are really only a few names that stand out because these marketing experts really are experts and have publicly proven themselves so - their success is public knowledge, it's out there and nobody has to take their word for it. I'm thinking of people like Terri Levine, Joe Vitale, Robert Imbriale, Joe Nunziata - people who still run profitable businesses as well as coach and teach others how to do it. They're walking their talk every day. Well, there are many others of their ilk - if you have studied marketing you know their names. But what of these young guns who are springing up, professing their newfound wealthy lifestyles and promising us we can share the dream if we buy their program and all the recommended programs they email us about... oh, did they forget to tell you that they are affiliates of these programs and products and hope to cash big fat checks just as soon as we all rush off and buy them?
Are we so gullible? Clearly, some of us are.
Let me state my case. No two businesses are the same and even if they both follow the same marketing advice, their results are never going to be the same. You're talking about businesses who not only may have very different target markets, but also have managers with different backgrounds, education, and skills... and different sized budgets to work within. They are based in different parts of our cities, some in poor areas and others in wealthy areas. One may be convenient to their target market and be able to work their niche to their success, and the other may be out of reach and out of contact. Then again, one business may deal with popular products and services that will always have buyers, and the other may sell small balls of navel fluff that, let's face it, may never sell. (They're waiting for the next ice age when any wool like product will be at a premium!)
But according to some (dare I call them "whipper-snappers"?), Johnny-come-lately's, who have set up a simple one page website or blog, bragging of their millions (but offering no evidence other than their say-so and some clever graphics indicating their alleged earnings), everybody can be a millionaire if we just buy everything they're selling us and do as they do.
Well you know what? I know people who have done that - and months later have nothing to show for it but disappointment when they read on these so-called experts' other sites and newsletters not to expect to make the same amount of money as they do, and it isn't a quick process - but on their marketing blog they're saying the opposite.
One respectable online personality claims to have taken almost three years to make enough money to enable him to quit his day job and stay home but openly admits he is far from being a millionaire, and yet, he is one that all the other bloggers look up to, including the young whipper-snappers!
Tell me, why would a thriving millionaire whipper-snapper espouse the virtues and encourage you to follow another blogger who openly admits he makes barely enough to enable him to stay at home while his wife works? So that has to make you think, right?
I'm a great advocate of "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is." I know I'm not alone in believing this, so how is it that in this enlightened, so-called wiser age, so many people are still being duped and wasting their money on hair-brained schemes and programs and new software inventions that sound good in theory, but are a waste of money in the real world?
If it is not possible to lump all businesses into one basket, how can one new fangled idea or software program promise to do what is impossible for everybody? And where is the proof that these things really work? And isn't it interesting how the Terri Levines and Joe Vitales of the world reached dizzying heights in their businesses, so much so that people seek them out for advice, and they can offer real testimonials that can be checked out, and photographic and evidence from witnesses that they have and do achieve what they say they have and do achieve - AND they did it without any of these new fangled invented programs and software programs flooding the market today by these younger marketers who will clearly sell the shirt of their grandmother's back if it will make them a quick buck.
Yes, many of the more established, well known marketing experts also offer programs, but they've built them on years of tested and proven experience. Unlike these newcomers, they haven't just put up a blog page one day and suddenly announced to all and sundry that they're overnight millionaires and their program will make you rich by Easter.
I trialled one of these young gun's programs, and people, I'm here to tell you all it did was empty my pocket. I was bombarded with emails trying to sell me programs they insisted I needed for success - but when I realized they were starting to offload similar programs that do the same thing and they were doing it for affiliate commissions through clickbank (yep, I did my research), I realized what they were really up to. Fortunately, I wisened up before I'd wasted too much time, effort and money. There is actually a website online that exposes these marketers and even goes so far as to name a few of them.
Technology may change, times may change, but people stay pretty much the same. We buy what we need, we enjoy our little luxury purchases when we can afford it, and we try to be astute with our purchases. Sometimes our purchases are emotionally based or impulsive; other times we are cool headed and calculating. But all the clever marketing in the world isn't going to sway us if we have made up our minds. Sales manuals devote entire chapters on how one might sway the mind of a stubborn potential customer who refuses to buckle under the hypnotic persuasion of the salesperson!
And this is what we all need to be - stubborn buyers who know what we want and can't be conned. We need to be stubborn enough to say no until we have done our homework and researched what is on offer and made comparisons. Are you getting my message?
So if you are starting off any kind of business, especially an online business, do you need to spend a fortune on these new software programs that promise to make your life easier and help you make money more quickly? The answer is no. Apart from the fact that most of these programs don't save you the time and money promised and you really can do it yourself (and in many instances it really is advisable that you do - but that's another article), there are often free versions of these same programs available online, so why pay for it? Because the reality so far is the majority of successful online businesses and marketers did it and do it without all that nonsense - and the few who are claiming they're successful because they use those products are only after your money - there is no proof to support their claims other than their personal say-so. And don't be fooled by testimonials without names and a way of contacting them.
There are far too many real experts and successful new business people doing it the honest way who have never used any of those techniques or programs this new generation of 'marketers' is trying to sell you. For the amount of money you could spend on all they want to sell, you could afford one or two quality sessions with a professional and experienced marketer or business coach who really can set you on the path to wealth and success. Of course, the choice is yours. And having said this, I'm not suggesting every new "whipper-snapper" out there is a fraud. Some may be honestly misguided and sincerely believe in what they're selling... at the end of the day it is up to you not to be duped, to do your homework, check out testimonials, and research online for other people's real experiences with that program or software.
Tip: Here is a surefire way of catching out these rogue marketers... if their focus is on getting you to sign up for various other products and programs that they recommend or insist you must have in order to follow their plan, then run - in the opposite direction. If they look like they just left school, and did, and they claim they are overnight millionaire successes, run - in the opposite direction. There is only one Richard Branson in the world and even he never claimed to be an overnight success the way some of these young monkeys claim. You've been warned, and remember - if it so
