Because you use your appliances every day, sometimes multiple times a day, you may need to schedule in household appliance maintenance more often than you think. This is not usually an annual thing - although there are certain things that can be taken care of once a year. Most of the maintenance done with your dishwasher, cooker or washing machine needs to happen frequently in order to be effective.
Washing Machine Maintenance
Maintaining your washing machine is an important step to ensure the reliability of this appliance. Practicing good operation techniques like using the proper soap that is called for in the owner's manual and not overloading the drum is a good first step.
The water inlet screens can also get plugged over time and can be rinsed, cleaned or replaced. An easy fix, this will eliminate the washer filling partway or not at all. Also the feet can be adjusted up or down to ensure the unit remains level. This will help to eliminate knocking or excessive wear on the drum and appliance shell.
Dishwasher Maintenance
Again, the maintenance of a dishwasher starts with good use. With the proper soap and good loading practices you can go a long way in ensuring it remains functioning well. Be sure the hot water temperature is at the correct level and add in a rinse detergent to make sure that those white spots aren't showing up.
If you get very ambitious, the filter can be unclogged. This often requires the removal of the dishwasher face and can be complicated depending on where the filter is. But when it's done you will immediately notice a difference in the quality of clean.
Other Household Appliance Maintenance Measures
There are various other small appliances that could use some maintenance in order to work at peak performance. Your vacuum needs to have a clear hose and any hair and other long debris removed frequently from the beater bar. The microwave and cooker will need to have the doors washed to ensure a clean view. Also, any heat elements or bulbs that burn out during the course of use need to be replaced as soon as possible.
