Redding is not the largest of towns, and that might be the understatement of the year

. It is much bigger than it was just ten years ago, however, and this beautiful city is continuing to grow. While you can easily reach any part of Redding in less than thirty minutes, the location of your home makes a big difference in how you experience this town. Accessibility is often trumped by opportunity cost, and even if the best grocery store is a ten minute drive away, you will probably end up going to the weaker option across the street significantly more often, particularly if they have those ice cream cookie sandwiches that you never eat. If you live right off of exit 44, the odds are great that you will rarely be visiting the north and south parts of Redding bordering I-5. While none of these are hard and fast rules, and honestly, we arent really even trying to make any points, here are a few landmarks in Redding, the probability of finding nearby houses for sale, and how living next to them affects your experience in this historic little town.

For starters, the most obvious of all Redding landmarks, indeed the only thing of note that legitimately puts Redding on the map, is the Sundial Bridge. Completed in 2004, the Sundial Bridge is Reddings primary tourist attraction, generating millions of dollars for the city in tourist revenue every year. The bridge is built next to Turtle Bay on the Sacramento River and provides easy walking access to the north and south sections of the Turtle Bay Exploration Park. For those living in neighborhoods just north of the bridge, along Hilltop Drive, the significant area allocated to the park provides something like a buffer, providing a quieter living environment, despite relative ease of access with both North Market St. and I-5 just minutes away. A light commercial offering along Hilltop offers convenience without congestion. Neighborhoods in this area have the unique benefit of being equidistant from both the Mt. Shasta Mall commercial area as well as the Lake Blvd & North Market St. commercial area. Houses regularly pop up for sale in this area of Redding, so keep an eye out.

Located just southwest of the Sundial Bridge is Reddings downtown area. A glorious mixture of residential and commercial, downtown is in many ways, the heart of Redding. Finding homes for sale here will not be easy, if you are looking to move in, but at the moment there is a pretty good commercial offering, particularly for office rentals. The downtown is surrounded by residential communities on the north, west, and south sides, with plenty of houses for sale in Redding. While the downtown area offers quick access to the best of Redding, you will have to travel a bit further to reach more mainstream retailers, with most located on the opposite side of I-5. Hwy 44 provides relatively quick access, however, and most residents sincerely enjoy the quieter style found on the far west side of Redding.
