Fasteners are products that are used to hold two pieces of material together, which could be anything from wood to titanium. Although most people believe that fasteners only consist of regular nuts, bolts, and screws, in reality there are literally thousands of fasteners, many customs made for industrial needs.

Fasteners come in many types. There are galvanized fasteners which work best for outdoor building projects. These fasteners are coated with zinc to prevent corrosion and are often used around the coast where the weather and salt water corrodes metals and woods faster. They are also often used with pressure treated wood, otherwise known as preservative treated wood, because it's been found that galvanized metal has a longer service life when paired with this type of wood. Due to the thickness of the coating, other galvanized components must be used like using both galvanized nuts and bolts. This is because the pieces won't fit together correctly otherwise. There are also stainless steel fasteners. This type of fastener is also resistant to corrosion and rust, and works well outdoors, but in this case it's achieved by mixing the steel with a chromium compound. These pieces tend to meld together over time in a process called galling. This happens because the chromium mixes with oxygen and solidifies the pieces together forming a bond.

In the construction industry, industrial fasteners are needed for a wide variety of purposes. This goes for anything from residential properties and corporate buildings, and anything in between. Fasteners for construction use need to be very strong and have the ability to withstand the elements, storms, earthquakes, and any other number of issues that may arise in order to hold the building together. Typical anything being held together in a building is being done so by the use of fasteners. For example, fasteners such as drywall screws or drywall nails are used to attach drywall to the wood frames of buildings and hold it in place. There are also roofing nails which are used in order to keep roof shingles from blowing off in cases of severe weather. Walls and roofs aren't the only areas of construction that require fasteners of some kind; they are also required for plumbing as well. When securing water pipe connections, to ensure a continuous flow retaining rings are used to keep pipes from coming apart or leaking. Regardless of the type of building being made, industrial fasteners are the glue that holds it all together.
