Sandstone, marble and slate are generally considered safe for use with aquatics. It is not advisable to use limestone as this can adversely affect pond life and fish. It is also advisable to rinse all aggregates prior to use in tanks or ponds, as stone can grind up in transit creating dust in the packaging which can then be transferred to the water. Larger aggregates are great for use in garden landscaping; boulders and slate are often used to add drama to a water feature such as a pond or a mini waterfall.

When considering the packaging and delivery of your aggregates, take into account practicalities, such as how the materials will be transferred to the location and how they will be laid. For example, a tipper vehicle might be more suitable for a large area such as a driveway, or to cover another large area, for example if wood chippings are to be laid as protective flooring in a childrens play area.
