Luxury Boutique Hotels Of The Garden Route
Along the southern cape coast of South Africa there is an exceptional scenic route known as the Garden Route
. From cosmopolitan Cape Town at the western end all the way to Port Elizabeth in the east this is a voyage of discovery dotted with small towns, scenic views, wildlife nature reserves and welcoming boutique hotels and guest houses. This journey is ideal for travellers who prefer to have independence and control of their own itinerary and schedule and is easily combined with a luxury city and/or safari experience.
As well as having the opportunity to travel at your own pace the Garden Route offers stopping points from where you can enjoy many active pursuits from hiking to paragliding, whale watching or excursions into nature reserves or to enjoy the wonderful South African sunshine relaxing on the many sheltered beaches. To look after mind, body and spirit there are many superb restaurants and cosy cafes which offer wonderful multi cultural cuisine and as this is South Africa's oyster capital - the most delicious seafood.
A stay in Cape Town works very well as either the starting point or conclusion of your Garden Route journey. This vibrant city has natural beauty such as the breathtaking Table Mountain, a rich cultural heritage in the neighbourhoods that colourfully celebrate their historical roots and yet is bang up to date with chic, luxurious hotels, shopping and fabulous restaurants. Cape Town's exciting Victoria & Alfred Waterfront is ideally situated with Table Mountain as a backdrop to its grand five star hotels and romantic dining attractions.
From Cape Town a detour north east into the area known as the Winelands, with its little towns of Paarl, Stellenbosch and Franschhoek famed for history, comfortable hotels and boutique guesthouses and of course the world famous vineyards. Heading west hugging the coastline the towns of Hermanus and Gansbaai greet you warmly with the exciting prospect of whale watching and shark diving although for the feint hearted perhaps the luxury cliff top hotels with relaxing spas would be more desirable.
On the eastern edge of the Western Cape the route passes through several national parks and lake areas with the attractive towns of Krysna and Plettenberg Bay enticing you to stay awhile. From the airports of George or Port Elizabeth, at the end of the Garden Route scheduled flights can return you to Cape Town or onward to Johannesburg where connections are available to The Kruger National Park or Madikwe Game Reserve to name a few destinations.
Many of South Africa's game reserves, in addition to luxurious, comfortable accommodation and excellent game viewing also are a good choice for a family safari with specifically adapted facilities and services and in the case of the Madikwe Game Reserve - malaria free perhaps a key factor in planning your family trip.
The Kruger National Park with its adjoining private game reserves has stylish luxurious lodges and intimate tented camps offering the Big Five complimented by an overall amazing safari experience.
Because of the climate, variety of activities, hospitality and excellent game viewing South Africa is a very popular choice for a safari holiday for all types of visitors - whether safari experts or first timers e - with the seamless combination of the fast pace of a city, the slow scenic meandering of the Garden Route and the thrilling wilderness of the game reserves.
