When I first started, I didn't even have a website

. I heard people saying that how important it is to have a website for your photography business. So, I started to do a little research on the topic.

During my research, I found that your website is online store that works for you 27 hours, 7 days a week and 365 days a year. This website store will never be close even during the holidays. You want to know what the GREAT thing about having a website? You don't have to manage it. It will run on its own. You don't have to bill the electric bill or rent, like if you had a store. You don't have to clean the windows, or floor. You don't have to pay any employees. You don't have to do any of that. You just create a website and it will run own it's own. As if it was on auto pilot. Who doesn't want that? I sure did!!!

After learning that, I was so excited about getting a website. So, I went on yahoo small business site (http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com ) and register my domain name (www.kumarphotography.com ) and let them host my site. Domain name is something similar to a physical store name. If I had a store, I would tell people my store name is Kumar Photography and it's located at XYZ. For my website, I would tell people that my website name is: www.kumarphotography.com . Hosting is similar to having a physical store space (x feet by x feet) where I could have my equipment, computers, and etc. Hosting is the amount of space I would have for my website where I could store my website files online.

After I got the domain name, I had to design my website. Just like if I had a store I would have to figure out what color walls I want to paint, where I want to hang my photographs and etc. Luckily yahoo offered free website templates that I used for my first design (Through out the years, I have changed my website template to give it a little more personal touch). It was pretty simple. In just few clicks my website was up and running.

I sent out few emails to my friends telling them about my new website. They then turned around and sent it to their friends. Before I knew it, I was getting lot visitors to my website daily. Visitors would come from all of the places. They could be from New York, New Jersey, Delware, Maryland, Washington DC, Virginia, Florida and etc. Also, they would come to my site anytime that was convenient for them. They didn't have to worry about my hour's operations. If they wanted to visit my site and view my work 9pm, 2am, 6am, and etc, they could do that by going to my site.

The amount of visitors I got on my site, I don't think I would have gotten if I had opened up a physical store.
