How Dealing With Wires Makes Your Life Easier

Don't you just hate cables? They can drive even the calmest man to the very edges of insanity.

Picture this;

You've just bought yourself a smart new top of the range HD Ready TV and it's being delivered today. You just can't wait to see the picture quality; especially when you've been making do with that hulking great monster-telly from the Bronze Age for so long.

Ah-a! That's the doorbell! It's here!!!

Now, you know that your new television isn't overly big, but its packaging makes it look like you are providing a home for the local cinema's replacement screen. The neighbours are bound to talk. Never mind...

You wrestle the giant hyperrectangle inside the house, through the hallway, into the front room and you begin digging your way through the many layers of cardboard and polystyrene...

You've done it!

Like a dark sentinel, your new Widescreen baby crouches before you. You pause to admire it. Those lines, so sleek; you feel an urge to caress the control panel, but you suppress it. 'That's just over the top!' You reprimand yourself. Besides, there's always time for that later...

Now comes the magical moment. You have lurched and heaved this electrical unit of the future into its new home/corner and the time has come to plug the breath of life into it...

But no! The cables you so carefully arranged earlier on have entwined themselves all around one another!! It's always the same with wires; you only have to turn your back for a moment and they will instantly transform themselves into a nest of serpents!

Frenzy. You scurry around the floor desperately trying to find vital components and connections. Why are there only two scart leads when there should be three??? Just how many AV wires does this thing need??? And where is the HDMI splitter that you bought yesterday and put 'somewhere safe'???

Suddenly you have a strong and terrible desire to bite down on something; hard. AAAARRGH!!! You wish you had just kept the damn 1980's monster TV; left it lurking in the corner!!!!

2am; There are carpet fibres between your teeth and your throat is very dry. The men in the white uniforms are kind though and you love the little back-to-front jacket they have given you to wear.

A sad story perhaps, but it certainly has a scary ring of truth about it! So, what exactly can we do to rid our homes of this deadly coiled menace?

Here are 3 realistic solutions -

1. Try to purchase wireless equipment whenever you can. This will often cost very little more and it will save you a great deal of stress.

2. How about getting one of those 'cable tidy' things to put around your leads? We all see them in the shop and think how clever they are... But how many of us actually buy them???

3. Throw away any of you possessions that are less than fifty years old. This should automatically remove most of the cables form your home!
