How Dieting And Exercise Can Help You Control Hypertension

Hypertension which also can be referred to as high blood pressure happens when pressure builds up in the arteries

. It is the similar affect when you turn on the garden hose and squeeze or stand on it. The narrowing of the hose pipe and the build up of water increases pressure on the hose. This has the similar affect with the build up of blood pressure in the arteries.

Hypertension is becoming a common condition amongst many people. In America nearly 30 percent of adults have hypertension. What is also starling that over 30 percent of those who do have the condition are not aware that they have it. Hypertension is a condition that needs to treated and treated properly or else it will worsen.

Many people think that people who have hypertension are always angry and stressed out. This could be the case as these sort of situations will raise the pressure of your blood. However, that does not necessarily mean they have the condition. For example, a healthy person who does not have the condition could have the symptoms when they attend an important job interview or have to deliver a speech to a large audience. In fact the most laid back people, who you would think would be the last candidates to have it can also have high blood pressure.

The condition hypertension can be defined as an individual who is blood pressure is consistently above its normal levels. There are many causes of the condition that are either controllable or out of your control. The factors that you cannot control are genetic factors were past generations have had it or your parents or siblings have it.


Being overweight is strongly linked to hypertension. Therefore, if you are at risk or if you already have it you should focus on reducing it. There are two ways you can do this:

Diet

Reduce your fat intake: this means less food that are high in saturated fats such as red meats and dairy products such as cheese

Introduce healthier and more nutritious foods such as fresh fruit and vegetables

Lower your intake of salt. Reduce or cut out salt that you use in cooking are putting on your food.

Avoid snacks that are high in sugar and refined flour.

Exercise

Take more regular exercise at least 3 times a week. The exercise should make you breathless.

If you already have high blood pressure then take it slowly. These exercises should be gentle to moderate and spaced over the length of the day. Consult your doctor first for advice before you do any form of physical exercise.

Always consult with your physicians if you have a health condition or food allergy before changing or doing any form of new exercise or diet.
