How Different Countries Spend Their New Year

New Years Day is a traditional festival of every western country

. On that day, people will wish each other well wherever in the street or in urban or village.

In the United Kingdom, Every family should clean their kitchen on New Years Eve for driving away demon and bring happiness for next year. And some other people choose to visit strangers home as guests taking a piece of coal to be the New Years gift in order to wish the fire in hosts house burning ever more brightly.

New Years Eve of Italy, People would like to let off fireworks on the street, singing and dancing to celebrate the coming of brand new year. Till midnight, some families will throw the broken pots and pans outside the door and allow children to smash things arbitrarily, aiming at bidding farewell old and welcoming new.

In France, leftover wine would be better not to happen which means unlucky in the coming year. Therefore, a lot of people on New Years Eve get drunk at that day, so those who open a bottle of wine prefer to drink at the end of the air.

The elected beautiful girl will play as angel in New Years Day in Greece, sending New Years gift for children. Moreover, in Portugal bullfighting is their way to welcome New Year and 10 days before and after New Year is the climax of bullfight in special bullring of major towns.

Although New Years Day is not a religious holiday, every church will hold religious service at night. The custom of New Year in America comes from various kinds of cultural background in that United States is a country with immigrants who express their happy mood incisively and vividly. Some participate in New Years Eve feast, while some flock to the local public square to join public celebrations.

Open House is one of the major features of American New Year custom. They open the door, allowing guests to come free. Open House originated from the first president, George Washington, who opened the house of him to welcome visitors all over the world in Jan.1, 1789.
