Every single device on the Z-wave network, such as the lights, light switch, thermostat, and door locks, has its own individual code, pre-selected from more than 4 billion combinations. But Z-Wave goes well beyond just the lights. For instance, you can create a scene for sunrise that opens the blinds, adjusts the temperature, dims inside lights to a pre-set level, turns on the radio to soothing tunes, and deactivates an outdoor motion sensor. Z- Wave can be used with outdoor devices providing they remain within range of the controllers.
The Z-Wave system is perfect for any home, large or small. Since Z-Wave is a routing technology, an enabled device will pass the signal along to another until the final target is reached. Even large, sprawling homes can benefit from the wonderful features of the Z-Wave system. But of course, the final range will ultimately depend on how many devices you have and the architecture of your home. The more walls or other obstacles you have in your home, which a signal has to pass through, the shorter the range will be.
