How Extravagant Should An Engagement Party Be?
After the proposal happens, the next step is to start planning the engagement party
. This is when the question often pops up how extravagant should an
engagement party be?
Some brides feel if they are going to have an extravagant wedding, then the engagement party needs to be equally extravagant. Some people go all out, spending thousands and thousands of dollars on their engagement parties. However, with the economy in the state it is, it doesn't always make a lot of sense to spend a lot of money on the engagement party.
First of all, think about your financial obligations. Does it make sense to spend frivolously for both the engagement party and
wedding? Would it make more sense to take a low-key approach to the engagement party so there will be additional savings set aside for the wedding?
There is nothing that dictates the engagement party has to break the bank. An engagement party is a time to bring close friends and family together to celebrate a commitment two people have made. Instead of renting out an expensive venue, consider inviting people to your home. Cook some lasagna and open a few good bottles of wine. Let friends and family make toasts to the engaged couple.
One way to dress up a casual occasion is to make the engagement party a formal affair. Getting dressed up will change the feel of the occasion no matter where the engagement party is held.
If a party at home feels too casual, consider going to a family-owned restaurant where huge pasta meals are served and dishes are inexpensive. Remember, people are here to celebrate your love. They want to spend their time with you and share this moment. They won't care if you have your engagement party at home or at Campanile in Los Angeles.
Engagement parties can also take place during the day, which will allow entire families to join in the celebration. Daytime engagement parties can be pool parties, or parties at the beach. They can be held in the local park or at an ice rink. Make it as fun as you want. If there's something you enjoy doing like surfing, have a surf party.
There is only one requirement for an engagement party and that is to have fun. Enjoy yourselves, surround yourselves with the ones you love and save your money for the wedding celebration.
