How Extravagant Should An Engagement Party Be?

The engagement party is the first step in the wedding planning process

. It's a time to share your love with those who are most important to you. Some people feel that the engagement party sets the tone for the wedding, but that isn't necessarily so.

In the past, couples felt their engagement party had to be a huge affair. It had to match the luxury and extravagance of the upcoming wedding. However, when the economy crashed, people started to reconsider how they wanted to spend their money. For those on a budget, it makes more sense to have a simple, intimate engagement party and save money for the wedding day.

Before you decide what kind of engagement party you want to have think about how much money you have to spend. If there are certain luxuries you don't want to compromise on for your wedding, but you have a limited budget, then consider having a less expensive engagement party. If you have unlimited funds, then go all out. Unfortunately, most people do have a budget they need to stick to.

People want to be with you and congratulate you. That can take place anywhere. There is no reason you can't invite people to your home and cook them a delicious dinner. With tasty wines and beverages and a good meal, everyone will be relaxed and able to enjoy your company.

One way to dress up a casual occasion is to make the engagement party a formal affair. Getting dressed up will change the feel of the occasion no matter where the engagement party is held.

If you prefer to go out and be in a more social setting, look in your area of town for a local restaurant that serves family-size dishes so everyone can share. This should cut costs significantly. No one should be judging how much money you spend on your engagement party. They should be thrilled they have been invited to be a big part of your wedding.

For those who have friends with kids, then a daytime celebration might make more sense. Think of a pool party, or heading down to the beach or a park. This way, the kids can run around and play. Ice rinks are another great place for an engagement party.

Your engagement party should be fun. You can make it as formal or as casual as you like, but remember, the wedding day is the big day. Save your money for the wedding!
