How I Got To Buy A New Home

It is 10 am on a lazy Sunday morning

It is 10 am on a lazy Sunday morning. I am at home which happens to be my cramped studio apartment which is bereft of power which means theres no TV nor can I switch on my computer or any other device that works on power for that matter. To make matters worse there is no water either. Makes you kind of miserable doesnt it?

The person responsible for my sorry state of affairs is obviously my Landlord, the wonderful person who makes it his business to collect the rent promptly every month. I must be out of my mind to continue living in this dump knowing pretty well what a spendthrift he is and how he spends money even before he could get it. I end up shelling out money and not getting even the basic facilities. This of course, has resulted in him not paying his utility bills regularly, which in turn explains the plight I am in. This isnt the kind of neighborhood I would want to be in if there was any choice. Im surrounded by shady characters that are lolling around the place during most parts of the day and seem to be completely out of sight during the nights. Residing in such an area has its own perils and drawbacks. Id give anything to be able to get away from this dump.

Just when I was wondering what on earth I should be doing to get out of this predicament, the doorbell rings. I was sure it was the Landlord himself and braced myself to give him a piece of my mind; however it turned out to be my colleague and friend Harry who seems to be cheerful always without a care in the world. He got himself invited in and helped himself to a drink that was warm. What else could you expect when there is no power and the fridge does not work?

Anyway, we got to exchange pleasantries and I just casually asked him how he managed to remain cool at all times. It was then that I learned that he had a home of his own in an area that I have seen only in my dreams (though I have been having nightmares of late). How on earth has he managed this while his earnings were somewhat in the same range as mine? It is next to impossible to have saved all that money in such a short time. He asked me to relax and pulled out his laptop, which had timewarner cablehooked up and went on to explain that there is something called mortgage where you do not have to put all the money at one go in order to buy a home of your own. I got to learn the nitty gritty of finance and started exploring through the Internet which kept amazing me as I was lead from one thing to another in quick succession and in about an hours time I had waded through a mine of stuff that could have easily taken me a weeks time to gather had I been going about it the conventional way. To have access to an entire mine of information sitting at home is truly beyond perception, of course till one gets initiated into the wealth of gainful knowledge one can have access to online. As every document required could be processed and submitted in digital version, 85% of the work could be done online itself; it was not before long that I too became the proud owner of a home that I could call my own.
