How Is A Local, Small Courier Different From Fedex?

When you're first starting to look for a courier company to service your business

, you are going to see that you have two primary types of options. The first is going to be the companies like FedEx. These are organizations which span the globe and which are globally recognized. The second is going to be a smaller, local courier company such as a small New Mexico courier service. The hard part is deciding which of these companies is going to be a better fit for your business.

There are several things that you need to think about with each of these companies that will help you decide. First you need to think about the actual services that may be offered by those companies, and how they may apply to your business. Then you will have to weigh the costs of the two companies to see which you can afford. Finally, you have to consider the customer service approach that is taken by each organization.

Basically, when it comes to the services that you are looking for, it comes down to how large an area you want to ship to. If you're going to have to ship to the far side of the world every week, it makes more sense to work with the larger couriers. That is because the smaller couriers all end up partnering with them anyway to move goods over that great of a distance. When shipping locally however, the small courier can often offer faster speeds.

The cost of the two companies is proportionate to the services that you are using. If you're sending small packages across town, the local courier may have better rates. On the other hand, they may not have sufficient infrastructure to handle huge freight that has to go further, and in those cases, FedEx may offer you more value for your dollar.

The customer service that you are offered will relate to the amount you are spending on shipping. If you're a multinational company yourself and represent a million dollar account, you will demand a lot of attention and respect from FedEx, and a small company may not be able to provide you the support you need. If you're a smaller company though, your service will represent just another number to a company like FedEx, whereas to a smaller, local courier, you will be treated with a more personal touch in many instances.
