Do you ever feel like you go through a day, a week
, or a month and get nothing done? Sometimes I go through an entire week and I feel no closer to my goals than I did at the beginning of the week. How productive are you? There is no doubt that it seems sometimes life gangs up on you and won't let you get anything done. Let me tell you a story about how bad it can be, then I will share with you something so amazing that you will never forget it.
Sometimes I do work as a photographer. Last week I was given an assignment to photograph a house for a mortgage company that was thinking about foreclosing. The shack I was visiting was in the middle of the town called NO WHERE. Once in the area I drove down a few miles of very bumpy dirt roads until I came to something I almost couldn't believe. The road literally had a creek running over it. Now this wasn't just an overflow, this creek had been there a while. You could tell from looking at it that it had been there for years. I slowly took my car across the fast moving water and forded it.
About a half mile down more incredibly rough terrain I came to a mud hole in the road that was full of water. This hole was easily 25 feet wide. I didn't take any chances of crossing it. I parked my car and walked another half mile until I was directly in front of the house. I couldn't see the house because of all the trees so I needed to walk up the driveway. Standing at the entrance to the driveway I looked up I saw a sign that said "No Trespassing - Violators Will Be Shot - GO AWAY!". Sometimes it just seems like you are having "one of those days"?
As I look back over the past year I have had lots of ups and downs. In our lives it is easy to get so caught up in accounting for all the bad we experience that we forget to take a good long look at all the good. My perspective was totally changed when I sat down and wrote a list. I wrote down a list of my major accomplishments from this year. I highly encourage you to do the same. I am uplifted and feel like I can conquer the world at this point.
Here is an action step for you to take in your marriage or dating relationship. This is relationship advice that is so profound you should have to pay for it. Sit down with your loved one, it can be over dinner or maybe just a glass of wine and a toasty fire. Account for all the good the two of you have shared. Account for all the good the two of you have been able to share with others. Account for all the good that has been shared with you. Spend the evening with the goal being that all you will do is focus on the good in your life and how it has manifested over the last year. End the evening by planning what you will accomplish in the year to come.
