How Solar Panels Produce Electricity

Solar panels are beginning to gain a lot of interest from people all over the world because of its numerous benefits

. Reduced electricity costs, power supply during brownouts and conservation of non renewable resources are only some of its advantages. But have you ever wondered how these solar panels produce electricity?

First of all, let us look into the composition of the solar panels. This, and a basic knowledge of science, will help us better understand the process of producing electricity. These solar panels are basically composed of a semi conductive material. Silicon is usually used in making solar panels. This semi conductive material, in this case, the silicon, is made up of electrons. So here is where the magic starts. When the photons, which is from the sun's rays, hit the solar cell, the electrons in the cell absorbs it and transforms them into conduction electrons. If the photons that hit the solar cell has great amounts of energy, the electrons in the cell are freed and carries an electric charge through the circuit to the destination. It produces electricity in short. The electrons that do not receive enough energy from the photons however, just simply warms up the cell and won't produce electricity at all. Therefore, it follows that the more cells in a solar panel, the greater amount of electricity that it could produce. More cells mean more electrons. More electrons that absorb high energy photons means more electricity.

The mere thought of the process involved in producing electricity may be quite complicated, but the whole idea of producing electricity is quite simple. Solar panels really offer a lot of benefits so having one installed in your home would be very convenient.
