Agents can get you into auditions that are not available to the public, so having a good one can accelerate your journey to stardom. An agency wants you to succeed, because if you make money, so do they.

It is also a good idea to do your own job search on the internet, make an IMDb (if you do not know what this is, you should, so look it up ASAP), create your own youtube channel with good quality reels showcasing your talents, and also create your own website so that casting directors and producers can get a further sense of who you are, what your background is, and it shows how serious you are as an actor. Putting your resume out there into as many internet databases as possible is the best thing. The more presence you have in cyberspace the more likely you are to get seen and hit the big time.
