The list is composed of people that are within your target market, they share common interests and characteristics making them receptive to your products. Identifying your target market is a beneficial activity for your business because you can plan an effective marketing strategy. When you know the issues concerning that specific industry it would be easy for you create a message tailor fit to their specific needs. You can create a solution and different messages amongst different target markets.

Identifying your target market really puts you in a competitive advantage. The more pressing question however is, how to find a targeted business list? How do you build one?

List the benefits offered by your company- This is the first thing you need to do when building up more opportunities for your business. Make sure that you are listing benefits and not features. A feature is what something is benefits on the other hand ,is what it does. You should list the benefits your prospects will get to market the company successfully. Prospects will never buy to get a feature they always buy to get the benefits from a feature.

List the characteristics of prospects who will dramatically benefit from your product- When you do this you will eventually begin to see a definable group from those prospects. When you see them emerge you can now identify your target market , reach and develop profits out of contacting from that target market.

Qualify- Before including prospects on your mailing list, you first need to ask qualifying questions such as whether you can contact these people or whether you have all the right information. If you have identified people already and don't know how to start building the list, you may contact a business database provider and tell them exactly what are the specifications that should be included on your list. You may also ask yourself whether or not these people have the money to pay for what you are offering.

Do they have a need- You need to ask yourself whether prospects that could be included in your list has a need of your products and services. If not then you have to think twice of including them.

Quantity- You also need to make sure that you have an adequate amount of prospects to contact to produce the volume of business you need.

Don't waste your time contacting people who might not even be interested with what you offer, that's not the targeted market for you. Use the points listed above to create the list. If you build a targeted list, it will give an overwhelming benefit for you and your prospects.
