How To Celebrate The Start Of A New School Year

It's that time of year again, when the days get shorter and the sun is seen less frequently

. Which means only one thing! School is about to begin. Below are some ideas on how to make a memorable last day of summer for your kids.

Hold a Fashion Show: With all of those great new clothes for school, this is a great time to hold a new school fashion show for the family. Your children will have fun dressing up, and strutting their stuff down the living room. Make sure to take pictures!

Create Last Day of Summer Crowns: With some cardboard cut out a crown shape for each of your children. Then decorate the crowns with pictures from places you have been this summer, and pictures of them from the summer. Add nice embellishments, etc. to enhance the crowns. Then surprise your kids with the crowns. The kids can then wear the crown during dinner and into the night.

Prepare a Special Dinner: Make a last day of summer special meal. Include all types of summer types of food. Grilled corn, watermelon and barbeque chicken.

Cookies: Make some sugar cookies in the shapes of letters. Decorate them and spell out words.

Prepare Wish Memos: During dinner have each child write 5 things they would like to accomplish during the next school year. For example; make a new friend, memorize the multiplication table. Then collect the wishes, and hang them on a board for the chidren to view the entire year.

Make a Schultuete Cone: This is a wonderful German tradition. On the first day of school the child is presented with a Schultuete cone, which translates to "the school cone". They are large cones with the Childs name decorated on them. These cones are filled with candy, and school supplies. This is so much fun for children. Perhaps change the tradition for the child and give it to him/her on the night before school.

All of these are fun ideas to help the transition from summer to school for children. Not to mention it all gives them something to look forward to as summer comes to an end.
