There are so many different mortgage brokers to pick from
. How do you know which one is best? If you are buying or refinancing your home the key is NOT to take any risks especially if you have already put an offer on your home because then you want to make sure you get the mortgage the first time, right?
The entire point of a mortgage broker is to help you get approved at the best interest rate possible. They will shop around to multiple lenders on your behalf and find the best suited for you. Contrary to what you may have been told, most mortgage brokers will go to both prime lenders and secondary lenders ... usually it just depends on your credit.
Do you have bad credit?
Bad credit is nothing to be scared of. With the right mortgage broker you can find a mortgage. You just may not get the best interest rate.
Okay, so it is extremely important that you choose a good mortgage broker. Here are my three tips for doing that:
1. Find out how many mortgages they've done. Do they do the mortgages themselves or do they have an assistant? Do they understand your situation and have they got others approved just like you?
2. Get to know your mortgage broker by asking questions. The more you know about them the more comfortable you will feel. You could even meet them for a coffee or whatever. See if they've had difficult mortgages in the past and how they got them approved.
3. Ask to speak with past clients. It's always good to call other clients and see what their experience was with the mortgage broker. And any good mortgage broker will be happy to allow you to call one or two past clients.
It is so important to find a good mortgage broker the first time round to save yourself wasted time, money, and energy. Take your time and do it right!
