How To Choose The Right Courier Service For Your Business

The type and size of courier service you choose relates directly to the type and size of your business.

On-Board Couriers

This type of courier is the most expensive and most often used for international shipping of packages and information. On board couriers deliver things such as medical packages, critical tools or sensitive information.

Personal Courier Services

This service is either B2B (business to business) or B2C (business to customer). The type and size of this service varies widely, as it is usually used to bring ideas or goods from Point A to Point B within the same city. Goods and services transported by this service range from confidential paperwork to standard documents. Any modern mode of transportation may be used to complete the transaction, from bicycles to large trucks. Larger companies with more complex mail systems may prefer the larger courier companies because they are efficient and ensure that packages get to the right person in a timely fashion. However, smaller companies may prefer bike messengers as they know how to maneuver around large cities.

Same Day Courier Services and Overnight Courier Services

For a higher price, personal courier services can guarantee same day delivery. This is most useful when confidential documents are involved. Also, overnight services are offered, and can cover long distances. There is, however, a cut off time for overnight deliveries to be received by the courier service.

Back Loads and Part Loads Courier Services

This type of courier service involves the company using the courier service waiting until said courier service is en route to their business area to place an order for delivery. For instance, a mechanic may order parts from a courier, but instead of paying a premium to have the parts delivered same day, he may wait until another customer orders from the same area, and has the item shipped then. However, if the location the product is being shipped to rarely get delivery coverage, the item may be shipped within a certain time frame anyway.

B2B Directories

B2B DIrectories are databases which connect vendors to potential business customers. This can be viewed as a one-stop shop for businesses looking for vendors. In this case, a company would look up couriers in their vicinity and find many ones that suit them the best by using the following guidelines:

Referrals

Information on their websites

Their professional rapport with the company

What type of service they provide

There are many qualified courier services out there ready to meet your needs. Its all just a matter of looking for them and using the correct criteria to qualify them for the job.
