How To Clean A Cartridge Type Swimming Pool Filter

Swimming poolsare a real fun and a source of exercise in the summer, but maintaining them can be a real challenge. Normally, people prefer to save money will go for cleaning up the filter rather than buying a new one. When not given proper care, it could result in damage of filtering equipments. There are a few steps that have to be followed while cleaning a cartridge type swimming pool filter. Here they are:

1. Purchase good quality cartridge type filters of pleated fiberglass material or synthetic media.

2. Run the filter on a normal mode and when you find it dirty, detach it from the pump-filter assembly.

3. Use water sprayer to rinse off the debris from the filter before the filter gets dried up as it will cause the collected debris to set into the filter media, making it difficult to remove later.

4. As the filter fabric is very light and thin, it is better to use an air compressor to remove tiny loose particles from its surface. It can also be done using a painting brush or other similar means.

5. Take a large bucket with a tight-fitting lid to dip the filters. Use a solution of pool chlorinator and water in 1:6 ratio. Submerge the filters in the bucket and close the lid tightly. Keep this intact for 3-5 days for best results.

6. This solution allows the destruction of micro-organisms that are trapped inside the filter. It also breaks down the organic contaminants.

7. Take off the filter from the solution and rinse it in a bucket of clean water. You could see the rinsed contaminants coming out of the filter.

8. Place the filter in bright sunlight and allow them to dry thoroughly. A paint brush can be used if there is any more dirt found on the surface of the filter. Sunlight also has algae killing properties.

9. The chlorinizer solution can be re-used in future if the bucket is tightly sealed after the cleaning is over.

10. Now mix a solution of muriatic acid and water that dissolve minerals accumulated in the filter media that causes to reduce the rate of water that passes through the filter. Take another clean bucket with tight lid and fill it with 2/3 part clean water. Carefully pour the muriatic acid to get 1 part acid to 10 parts of water.

12. Bubbles will be formed which indicate that the acid is reacting with the mineral deposits and once the bubbles disappear, it means that the minerals have been dissolved.

13. Close this container tightly after the above process.

14. Rinse the filter with clean water several times and place them out to dry.

15. The filters are ready to use and can be attached to the pump-filter assembly.
