How To Clean Your Luxury Watch
Purchasing a Patek Philippe watch is a serious investment
. These luxury watches are intended to be show pieces. They add a certain "wow" factor to any outfit. For those that can afford several Patek watches however, there's a chance that you will be wearing one of these luxury watches every day.
With everyday wear there are certain drawbacks. Sure everyone will be in awe over the fantastic quality of your watch, but you also need to deal with the consequences of dirt and scratches that your timepiece is sure to endure. Of course you can always take your Patek Philippe watch to the jeweler and have them buff out scratches or clean the band, but you can also take pride in your belongings and do it yourself.
If you want to clean the band, you should remove the actual watch from the wristband before you begin. If you cannot take off the watch face, you will need to be very careful not to get it wet as this can permanently damage the watch. Even if the watch is supposedly water proof you need to be very careful.
Using a solution of water and dish detergent, soak your watchband to remove dirt and grime. If your watchband is leather and not metal, substitute white vinegar for the dish detergent. You should soak the band for a few minutes for light build up or a few hours for more stubborn caked on dirt and grime. Using a soft cloth wash away any dirt that has gotten into the hard to reach places of the band of the watch. Make sure the cloth is very soft so you don't scratch up the metal. Air drying is definitely best and you should leave it for several hours to completely dry. Be sure not to wear the watch while it is wet, this can discolor the watch or even your wrist.
If scratches are your problem, you can use a jeweler's cloth to help diminish the appearance of any scuffing. Jeweler's cloths are double sided. Use the inside to buff away the scratch and the outer side to polish until your watch shines. This is of course for metal bands only. If the jeweler's cloth doesn't work, you can purchase oils like "never dull" and polish the watch with the solution to help you get rid of deeper scratches on polished stainless steel. Keep your watch looking shiny and new with these tips!
