How To Curb And Beat Binge Eating Disorder
Binge eating, is a pattern characterized by episodes of uncontrollable
, compulsive overeating. This pattern of behavior is also commonly known as binge eating disorder.
In common cases, if you find yourself having an uncontrollable urge to eat when you're not really hungry but rather from depression, boredom or stress, you are most likely binge eating. Soon you will also find yourself putting on weight fast and feeling ashamed about this overeating habit.
As distressing as the condition is, binge eating is still a treatable condition. If you are feeling ashamed and guilty about putting on any more weight, you need to learn how to curb and beat binge eating and start losing weight today.
For starters, here are a few ways you can do in order to stop binge eating:
First of all, get rid of all the junk food that's in your home completely. Replace all of it with healthy fruits and vegetables. In the beginning, if you can't help yourself and have to binge, at least start binging on healthy foods.
Keep all food you have in the kitchen where it belongs. If you're looking at it, the more likely you are to eat it. Most people will binge eat because they don't really know if they're hungry or not. It's normal for someone to sit and watch television eating a bag of chips. They won't even realize they've eaten the entire bag. Instead of thinking about what they were eating, they were thinking about the television. That's why you need to be sure to keep everything to eat in the kitchen and only allow yourself to eat at the table.
If you consume more water throughout the day, you'll find it easier to stop binge eating. Drinking lots of water will also help you to lose weight and flush out unhealthy toxins in your body. Every single day you should make it a point to drink at least 8-12 glasses of water. The more water you drink, the more your stomach will feel full. Make it a point to drink plenty of water through the day and especially before you sit down to eat. This rule does not apply to sodas or anything loaded with sugar. It only means water. Stick to water.
Boredom is often one of many reasons that causes people to binge eat. Say you're sitting around doing nothing, suddenly you feel like you need to eat; get up and start doing something before you start eating. A healthy option would be to exercise, or you could just play a game. Why not try to go for a walk? If you start doing these activities and you won't feel like eating anymore.
Say you're feeling emotionally stressed or upset, you want to eat to get your mind off of the situation. If this is the case, you might have to talk to someone close to get to the root of the problem. If you are the type of person that eats when you're emotional, it can become a lifelong problem and battle. Most people know when they don't need to eat, but they do it anyway so the pain of the situation wont hurt so bad. It's unhealthy to think this way.
Generally, most people who binge eat admit that they are lacking in self-control. You are the only person that knows when and how to eat, and you're the only person who can change your habits. You have to become stronger within yourself if you want to stop binge eating and lose weight. You have to convince yourself that you must stop the binge eating immediately.
One thing you could do is ask yourself each time if you really need what you are about to eat. Is your stomach really empty? Do I really feel hungry or am I just eating? Is it possible to continue on without eating this? Think about these questions and answers before you make your decision. If you are still extremely hungry after you do this simple assessment, trade the junk food for something healthy, like a banana. If you are chewing then your brain can be tricked into thinking you are eating. Perhaps give some sugarless gum a try to stop binge eating.
