How To Effectively Prevent Bad Breath

How can you prevent bad breath? This has probably been asked more than a dozen times each day in thousands of dental offices across the country

. Halitosis, or commonly known as bad breath, is a real oral health condition that is severe for many people and not just a simple case of a person having a morning breath. At least with morning breath you can easily get rid of it by brushing your teeth. Not the same with halitosis. Because such a problem persists throughout the day, a person's social life takes a bit of downturn each time he tries to talk up close and personal to another person.

And dentists, like Dr. Jonathan Hartley of Melbourne, have frequently dealt with this situation among their patients. In most cases the culprit is poor oral and dental hygiene. Some people just do not brush their teeth as often as they should. Whether they were not properly trained while they were still small kids or they just started to develop poor dental habits is not really important. Often the problem with having bad breath can be resolved just by brushing regularly.

Now the question for any person who is afflicted with this condition is, is there any treatment for bad breath? Is there any way to get rid of that smell and replace it with a fresh mint-like breath? The following are some of the ways that you can do to get rid of your bad breath problem.

But first and foremost you must make sure that you do not have any lingering dental problems especially tooth decay. A decaying tooth can be the root cause of your bad breath problems. Dr. Jonathan Hartley suggests that you first have your dental problems treated to see if these are the real cause of your bad breath.

Some essential oils are good in fighting bad breath. Tea tree and peppermint oils are just some of these natural oils that you can use. Just pour a few drops on your mouth or on your toothpaste and then brush your teeth with it. Do not forget to brush your tongue as well. Also look for these oils when you are in the market for your next mouth rinse.

Still on the topic of mouthwash, you can create your own by mixing half part hydrogen peroxide to half part water. This solution will help kill the bacteria that cause bad breath.

Another possible cause is dry mouth because there is where bacteria mostly thrive. You can solve your dry mouth problem by chewing on gum or drinking water more frequently. By chewing gum you are creating more saliva which in turn keeps your mouth wet.

While not really considered a cure but more of a temporary solution, breath mints and other breath fresheners that can be bought at the supermarket can keep your breath smelling fresh for the time being. But do not rely on these products if you think you have a severe bad breath problem.

Dentists like Dr. Jonathan Hartley recommend that we visit them more regularly so they can help us maintain our teeth and oral condition. This way they can easily detect, and as earlier as possible, any serious signs of halitosis, or more commonly known as bad breath. Just a frequent dental check up can help alleviate this growing health as well as social condition.
