How To Get Out Of Credit Card Debt for Good
Copyright (c) 2011 Jonny DarkoGet your credit card debt under control before it starts to control you. This is a simple message but one that so many people struggle with, especially in times of economic stress. You get control when you reduce your debt. And when you reduce your debt, you get debt free. So how do you get out of credit card debt for good? Well, you stop adding to the debt you already owe and pay the balance off over time. Simple, isn't it?Not really. If it was that simple to reduce credit card debt, then we wouldn't have had so many people with debt related problems caused from overuse of their plastic friend. After all, the numbers of people who are getting into credit bad debt is increasing even thought there is a lot of help put there. And it is not that difficult to reduce credit debt. You need to take advice, and put that advice into action. That is all. But with all the will in the world, no-one is going to do that for you. You have to act yourself. So the very first step in all aspects of debt management is to get yourself into the right mindset. Do you really want to eliminate your credit card debt for good? Or are you still looking for an easy way out? Focus on the benefits of being debt free. Think about how much better you will sleep when you are not tossing and turning with worry. And think about how much more in control of your life you will be. Secondly, you must act to stop the credit debt from escalating to dangerous proportions. There are two ways of doing this, namely, balance transfers and use of cash. Balance transfer is often treated as the number one measure to reduce credit card debt. This is really something that can help reduce the debt by slowing down the pace at which it grows with interest. It can also provide you some interest relief if you manage to transfer the debt to another card provider which offers a 0% APR for a few months (usually 6-9 months) to new customers. However, you must act quickly to pay down your transferred balance if you are to take advantage of this. The other preventive measure to stop the credit debt spiralling out of control is to stop using your card! This means that you must pay cash for all your purchases. If you cannot trust yourself to do this, cut your cards up. But remember, this does not eliminate the debt. You will still have to pay that off! However, as the cash in your wallet is a finite amount, you will find that you are no longer tempted to make impulse purchases which invariably blow your budget. So there you are. Decide to get out of debt. Stop using your cards. Transfer the balance to a low or zero interest provider and pay down the debt during the interest free period. Simple, but not easy, especially if you miss out step 1.
