How To Have A Stress Free Office Relocation

Relocating your offices may be stressful since there are a lot of factors to keep in mind

. The process could be quite difficult if you are not prepared. The basic outline of the stress free move is by breaking the process down into four parts; the initiation of the move, two weeks prior to the move, three days prior to the move and the actual moving day. Now there is no reason to have a stressful move!

Starting the Move

Start by evaluating the company, the employees and an inventory list of everything (big and small) that will come along for the move.

Next, nominate a team of staff that will work exclusively in the move to overseeing, planning and execution of the relocation.


A working document should be created by this group that covers all of the relocation bases like equipment that should be upgraded, replaced or fixed, the requirements for the network, telecommunication needs, communications connections, rebranding the business process and interior design.

Research new possible relocation sites and engaging in a new lease for this property.

Put together a list of vendors who can be hired for office equipment supply, interior design, furniture, installations and cabling, network installation, stationary, movers and other business specific needs.

Insurance should be updated to cover the new office space.

Go to the new site to begin planning out how the new office should appear, including measurements and floor plans.

Finalise the draft of the floor plan.

Contact your telephone and internet servers to walk through the new site.

Redirect mail to the new site with a start date at the Post Office.

Speak with your security company to cover your companys bases in the new building.

Two Weeks Before the Move

All of the newly branded office supplies should be in order.

The budget should be updated for the relocation to revise the funds left and to make any needed adjustments.

Update the timeline of the relocation.

Call the list of vendors to make sure they are on schedule.

Pack up any office supplies and equipment that is not in use.

Have an office meeting updating everyone on the location.

From the relocation team, someone should be selected to supervise the move on site.

Three Days before Relocating

Make sure all of the internet and phone cables are installed and functioning so that work can begin immediately. Everything should be installed from copy machines, to personal equipment.

The furniture should be put into place.

All office supplies should be available and stored.

Passes, access codes, and parking spaces should be given out to the employees.

Move in Day

All remaining furniture, documents and boxes should be picked up and taken to the new location.

All of these materials will be unpacked and set up according to the plans.


At the end of move in day, everything should be examined and noted to report how well the move went and if any problems occurred throughout the process.

The old site should also be reviewed to see any damage done to the office or if anything has been left behind. The cleaning crew should clean this area.

All accounts for the old site should be shut off like power, telephone and internet services.
