First off, there should be a business analysis. This analysis should include the changes that should be made upon relocation, any drawbacks and anything else that will help to advance the warehouse operations.

Next, there should be a market analysis that includes where the best location would be for the warehouse. This information should be based off of the local and regional markets, towns and businesses in the area of where you would like to relocate. A customer profile, market indicators, relevant statistics and customer data should all be considered. Once the preferred locations become apparent, your business can begin to narrow down the choices to pinpoint the exact location. A relocation team should be assigned to help in this process and decision as well as the overall moving process.

If your warehouse is hoping to create a new image, relocating is the best time to perform this action of rebranding. The market analysis part of the investigation can help to find the perfect rebranding tools and slogans.

Now that your relocation team has been established, the relocation process can begin. This process should be broken down into a four piece timeline. You will have the initial process, two weeks before the move, three days before the move and then what should happen on move in day. The post office should be contacted to arrange when to start sending the mail to the new address as well as the power company. On the move in day, everything from the old warehouse should be placed into the new space. In the old warehouse, damages should be evaluated and the premises should be cleaned. All accounts for the warehouse should be transferred to the new site or cancelled. Everything in the warehouse should be put in place on this day. The entire day should be documented to evaluate the relocation process and any problems incurred.
