Satellite TV is general immune to bad weather. The antenna holds up whether it is rainy or stormy outside. However, there are times when you can completely lose signal and your reception becomes a pain in the neck. Signal interruption can be caused by many factors. Solution to most of these problems is easy. The difficult part is to locate the cause of the problem. This article gives easy ways to know the source of and solve your satellite reception problems.
Obstruction between dish and receiver
If you experience a sudden and complete loss of signal then the most likely culprit is a piece of material that has gotten stuck between the dish and the receiver. This could be a basketball, a kite or any piece of polythene blown up by the wind. The simple solution is to remove the object.
Gradual loss of signal
If you notice that your reception has been getting poorer and then it finally cuts completely, the reason is usually a structure that recently sprang up besides your residence. This could be a growing tree in your residence or your neighbors. A new building construction will also have the same effect. Your antenna receives signals through a line of sight through the sky to the satellite suspended in space. Signal cuts when anything obstructs your satellite TV antenna's line of sight. The tree could be cut but if it is a building you have to change the position of the dish.
Shift in position
If you notice signal problems and the two above dont apply then you could consider this third problem. The satellite dish is installed with two parameters taken into consideration; the azimuth and the elevation numbers. The azimuth is the compass numbers for the position while the elevation is the degree of adjustment up or down. If a screw gets loose due to a weak board or sloppy installation, these numbers can change and signal will be affected. If you are technically inclined, check the manual or call the company to get this numbers to make the necessary adjustment.
Changed settings
Check the manual to confirm that all settings are correct. Your spouse, children or relation might have press the wrong button and changed the settings.
Wire contacts
If a wire is cut for example by a rodent or other means signal will be lost. Also some of the cable ends may not be having proper contact. Call the satellite company to send a technician if you can't handle any of these problems by yourself.
