It has been said by thousands of smokers that trying to quit is one of the most difficult tasks to take on
. Obviously the fact that you are trying to take on an addiction is a big reason, but it is also a mental factor. When someone smokes for so long, not only does the nicotine play its part in the addiction factor, but it also makes the smoker need to smoke simply out of habit. If you are a smoker and you wish to kick nicotine out of your life for good, then here are some tips that should be able to help you do just that.
The first thing that you need to do is take all of your smoking items. Your cigarettes, your lighters, your ash trays, your tobacco, rolling papers, pipes, anything that you use to smoke, need to be thrown away the minute you decide to quit. The reason for this is so that you are able to get yourself out of the mentality of being a smoker. The second step is to tell yourself that you are no longer a smoker and that nicotine is no longer allowed in your life, and that you will never be a smoker again. It does not matter if you have smoked within the last five minutes of reading this, the second you make the decision to quit, keep it in your mind that you have just quit smoking. It is like Yoda once said, do or do not, there is no try. You are not trying to quit, you have already quit. This is, of course easier to say than to practice, but mentality is the biggest factor in beating the addiction.
The next thing you will want to do is go talk to your doctor and see if they have any tips on how to curb nicotine cravings. If you end up using nicotine patches and nicotine gums, keep in mind that they are not going to do the work for you. It is going to predominantly be on you to resist the nicotine cravings, and it will not be an easy thing to do most of the time. Gums and patches may only serve to curb an individual craving at a time, and you may not always have them on hand, so developing willpower to resist cravings is extremely important.
Remember, trying to quit smoking can be extremely difficult, but it is almost all a mental battlefield. If you can just be able to resist cravings, then you should be able to kick the habit for good and live a nicotine free life.
