How To Meditate And Calm Yourself - For Beginners

Meditation is a great way to calm yourself, and center yourself so that you can better handle the stresses of everyday life

. The problem many people face is not knowing how to meditate. Read this article to learn how to meditate for beginners. It is not difficult once you find a quiet place you love, and understand the importance of breathing and clearing your mind by focusing on your breathing.

Find a Comfortable, Quiet Place

Find a place you can enjoy and be quiet. This place should remain quiet and comfortable the whole time you are in there. You should sit in this place, with your legs crossed and your back straight. When you are ready, move to the next step of breathing.

Breath In and Out Slowly and Deeply

Practice breathing very slowly and deeply, focusing on your inhale, and letting all the stress, anger, and negative energy out with each breath, inhaling calm and positive energy. Your breathing is your key to calming your nerves and getting rid of the stressful energy. It will take practice, so do not expect to get it right the first time you try to meditate.

Become Aware

Become aware of your breathing, focusing on keeping your breaths slow and calming. If you are having trouble staying focused, you are not alone. You will stray, and that is okay. The important part is that you recognize you've strayed, and you make a conscious effort to return your breathing patterns to calm, slow, and deep. As you breath this way, you will become much more calm and centered. Focus on this breathing pattern as long as you want to, until you are ready to end the session. The more you meditate, the more you will be able to train yourself to focus and concentrate on your breathing, making each session more productive in shorter period of time.

End the Session of Meditation

When you are ready to end your meditation session, open your eyes. Begin to stand up slowly, because this will keep you in the calm frame of mind, rather than rushing to stand up which could bring the anxiety stress back, and make you lightheaded. Stretch your arms and legs to re-acclimate yourself to a standing position. Now you are ready to move on to the next activity for the day, and you have discovered how to meditate. Repeat this several days per week, or day, even, to keep yourself happy and healthy.

Mediation is a healthy alternative to many dangerous vices such as overeating, smoking, drinking, or doing drugs. It provides a nice healthy escape from the stresses and realities of life, without the risk.
