How To Port Forward On Netgear Router

Port forward is a process that helps the internet to see your computer as if it were directly connected rather than being connected though a router

. If you want to use your computer as a server like transferring files to other users then you have to disable firewall by forwarding your systems port. Here are the tips which will help you to enable the port forwarding in your computer.

First of all you need to have a sever, now go to your computers start button and find command prompt or click run and type in CMD. You will have a black box poped up on the screen, you should type there IPCONFIG and hit enter. Then all kinds of stuff comes up, go up until you see an IP like this: 192.168.x.x but without the two X's.

Open your browser and type that IP in the address bar. You will see a security log in box will appear on the screen. Type your router username and password there which should be Admin and password by default and click ok.

After following the above process you will be logged in to your router. After that you should see on your left, the navigation menu, and then find the words PORT FORWARDING / PORT TRIGGERING.


You need to click on Port Forwarding which you found there. Make sure the input service is set to port forwarding. Now click the Find a button called ADD CUSTOM SERVICE. Click on the "Service and Name" button. Select the "HTTP" option from the drop-down menu if you will be using an HTTP service such as for an online game, or instead choose "FTP" if you will be using your computer as an FTP server for transferring files.

Make it TCP/UDP for the service type and then for the starting port & ending port type your server port. For the server IP address type in you computers IP like 192.168.1.2 or 192.168.1.3 NOT your router address.

After filling all the fields, you have to click on apply. Now you can logout.

Go to start and find control panel, go on it and click security, then click Windows Firewall, then another file should pop up and you need to find and click change settings. A box will appear there saying continue, you need click it and then you will get windows firewall settings. Now click the EXCEPTIONS tab and get the button called Add Port.

You will get a form now, type the name of your router service and enter the port number for your router service. Finally click OK and then click ok on your FIREWALL SETTINGS. You will now have a member registration page, you have to register here. Your IP number will be shown here, click to connect it.
