How To Remove Decals And Bumper Stickers From Your Car?
People who have a vehicle (no matter it is a car
, van, truck, sedan or boat) with a bumper sticker might like to change their sticker from time to time. How to remove those pesky sticky stuff without causing possible costly repair? This process might be easier than you think. Follow the following steps and get your job done efficiently.
Step one: Soften the adhesive or glue on the sticker.
A regular hair dryer will generate enough heat to soften the sticky glue or adhesive while avoiding damaging the fiberglass. Softening usually costs no more than five minutes.
Step two: Spray or soak the sticker.
You could use some kind of lubricant or cleanser like Windex or WD-40 to soak the sticker for several minutes. Repeat this step again and again until the decal is entirely saturated (paper sticker) or the liquid seeps all the edges (vinyl.) After get all these done, you could wipe off the decal with a piece of soft, non-abrasive cloth.
Step three: Remove any glue or adhesive residue with a plastic spatula that causes no harm to car fiber glass.
Scrape gently and carefully, don't push or scrape too hard. The best spatulas for removal are the "soft" plastic ones you always use to bake a cake or bread.
Step four: Further remove the residue with soft non-abrasive cloth.
The cloth must be soaked in Isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol. Use the cloth to gently wipe the sticking area in the car, don't use too much strength.
Step five: Wax and buff the sticking area.
If you plan not to stick any sticker or stick later, you could bring back the shine to the sticked area by waxing and buffing.
Some of these steps might need to repeat several times. However, it is the most effective way to remove car stickers completely without damaging the body of your car. This method works for any sticker, no matter your long it has been on your vehicle.
