How To Rid Yourself Of Dandruff

Dandruff is the white flakes that appear at the scalp and flutter their way through your hair

. They leave their mark behind on your hairbrush, comb and your clothing. It can be a frustrating problem. Attempting to comb out the flakes aggravates the problem, causing even more flakes to appear. To say it's a frustrating problem is an understatement.

Many people feel shame at the appearance of dandruff on their scalp. This is because they associate clean hair with flake free hair. The reality is, flakes in your hair have little to do with the frequency in which you wash it.

There are two main causes of dandruff. The first is an unhealthy scalp. Problems with your scalp, such as excessive dryness or an overproduction of the natural oils in your hair, can lead to flakes. The more you brush or comb, the more you irritate the scalp, hence the increase in flakes appearing.

The second cause of flakes in your hair is from a build up of product residues in your hair. Shampoos, conditioners, leave-in treatments and styling products such as hairspray or mousse, all stick to your hair shaft. In spite of regular shampooing, the residue from these products can remain and over time will build up and dry out. Eventually, this residue will start to chip off, appearing as flakes throughout your hair. Think of a soap film on a window. Eventually it will dry up and start to flake away. This is essentially the same thing that happens in your hair.

Combating dandruff is not all that difficult. A good shampoo with zinc pca, when used daily will bring your scalp back to a healthy, flake-free condition. If your flakes are from the residue left by other products, try a clarifying shampoo. These shampoos are specially designed to break up the residue that clings to the hair shaft.

Within a couple weeks you should be completely flake-free. Many people continue using anti-dandruff or clarifying shampoo after the dandruff has disappeared in order to avoid the return of the flakes. It's up to you to decide to these products regularly, but if you find the dandruff comes back, you can certainly use these shampoos again.
