How To Setup A New Pc

You ordered a new desktop computer from Dell and are excited to receive it in the mail

. Setting up a new PC can be a daunting task if you don't have any step by step guides on how to do it. There are two things that you need to consider in setting up your brand new computer, it's the setup of the hardware as well as the software side of the system. You don't have to wait on queue and wait for a technical support help. Below are the basic things that you need to know.

Hardware Setup

If you ordered from the Dell website, in essence, you built your own computer by selecting the specification of the hardware like processor speed, hard drive capacity, memory size, video card, etc. So after opening the computer box up, it is important for you to check if you have the right specification as well as the basic components.

Basic computer packages should have:

1) Monitor >Video connector (VGA-Blue/DVI-White) >Monitor power cable (depends upon the brand)

2) Keyboard/Mouse(Normally USB -Rectangular connector)

3) Central Processing Unit (CPU) >power cable

4) Speaker (If you ordered one- green jack for audio, pink jack for microphone)

5) User manual (if not present, you can print it from the website)

Inside the box you should also see a similar list. If something is missing, call the manufacturer as soon as possible so that they can send it as soon right away. Once you have everything, arrange all the components where you want to place it, then connect all the cables at the back. Now its time to turn on your computer.

Software Setup

The first time you turn on your computer it may ask you for some basic settings like time and date, etc. Do not connect to the internet until you have some sort of virus protection installed on your computer. Before you proceed, check if you have received the hardware specification that you paid for. Check if you have the correct amount of disk space, memory capacity and processor speed. Once you are sure you have the correct hardware, you can go ahead and configure that Windows update. Install and configure antivirus and antispyware program in order to avoid manual virus and spyware removal. Then check if the windows firewall is on. Check and configure browser settings.

Checking if you got the hardware specification that you paid for is very important. Computer company process thousands of computers at the same time and mistakes are sometimes unavoidable. Configure all sorts of protection first before connecting to the internet. This is the surefire way of setting up your system and having it ready for a longtime problem free use.
