Usually the co-signer will only be responsible for a fraction of the payments, at which time he or she will be relieved of the loan burden as you pay off the loan in a timely manner.

In this economy, bad things happen to good people. The banks know that, and getting bad credit loans may help with re-establishing yourself as a person who can make good on his or her debts. Just remember that you shouldn't let this affect your standing as a person.
