How being a National Park has bolstered South Downs popularity

When the South Downs was named the newest National Park

, it bolstered demand for housing in the already popular region. As a result, it's an area that's become popular with House builders. Sussex is particularly popular, as it's the county covered by the majority of the South Downs, stretching from Chichester to Eastbourne.

The National Park was created at the start of 2010 and countless reports published that year claim that it will drive up the price of property. The National Park status has boosted demand for people to live there, with an expected rise in the number of second homeowners choosing to invest in the region.

This has further driven up demand for housing, as fewer local people can afford property in the area.

What makes the South Downs different to other National Parks is that it's the most popular in Britain. William Blake was inspired to describe "England's mountains green" in his poem Jerusalem, Rudyard Kipling wrote about the Downs and it has around 39 million visitors each year.

It's often referred to as a vital green lung for a region which is so close to London. It's home to a variety of species that live in the mix of grassland, woodland and coastal wetland.
