How to Add Texture and Dimension to your Scrapbook Pages without Adding Bulk

As different companies teach different methods of scrapbooking more people are looking for ways to add a bit of texture to their pages without adding the bulk. Texture or background stamps offer a way to accomplish this without adding the bulk of regular embellishments. You simply stamp the images onto your paper then use a sponge to add a little ink in various degrees to enhance the aged look. You can also achieve this by using chalks. You can achieve a great look by inking your edges and bringing the ink towards the center of the page using a darker shade neared the edge, and going lighter as you move toward the center of the page.

You can also add great dimension by using a spray pen. This is a small bottle that you mix re-inker and water in and spray onto your background for a great effect. Because the ink is randomly applied, the color density varies adding an awesome antique look.

Another great technique is to use torn text as an embellishment. You can start with either a block of text you print from your computer, or torn from your favorite magazine or newspaper. As long as the newsprint is not touching the pictures, you don't have to worry about archival quality here. If it does concern you, simply spray with archival mist before beginning this project.

You can print the same block of text over and over as no one will be trying to read the text and see it is repeated. When typing your text, write words that you would like to reflect in your scrapbook page. Tear your text into the shape you want to use. I will often tear my text into the shade portion of an element i.e.: the shaded part of the tree, or use as a wing to a bird, you get the idea. When you cut your die-cut shape, cut two, one from the solid paper you are using as the original, and another from the text so you can coordinate them together. Tear your text sheet so you have the added dimension of edges. You can also tear accent strips for the edges of your pages.

When this is all done, and your page is together, go back and read the text that is on the page. Take a highlighter or yellow chalk and highlight any complete words that help journal the story. This too will add great dimension to the pages.
