Having a PC that runs slow is nothing new, but with the popularity of Windows 7 souring, it's no wonder that more and more people are discovering how this OS tends to run slow. This is a very frustrating and annoying problem which can make your PC unusable, but luckily, there are several easy ways to fix it: 1. Remove Any Unwanted Programs. Many people install lots and lots of programs on their computer because they can. Windows is a very versatile system which allows you to install a lot of programs, but these can make your system run extremely slowly. The problem is that since so many of these applications take up a lot of important hard drive space & memory, they can drastically slow your PC down... and if you have more programs, the problem becomes much worse. This issue is also amplified with the likes of Skype and AOL instant messenger constantly running in the "background" taking up valuable resources on your PC. You should hit the Start button, click on Control Panel and then on "Uninstall Programs" in the bottom left. This will bring up the add/remove programs applet, where you can choose which programs you want to remove. Try removing all the programs you don't want / need. 2. Delete All Your Junk Files Many people love downloading files and software off the Internet, and unfortunately, all these collections of files end up slowing your PC down. What happens is that since Windows is constantly checking the files on your hard drive (this process is called 'indexing'), the more files you have, the longer this indexing is going to take. A common problem is that many people just have so many junk files on their system that it slows down inexurably. Luckily, you can stop this by going through your hard drive and deleting all the downloads and unwanted files that are in there. You just need to select the files you don't want and then press SHIFT + DELETE to remove them permanently. 3. Clean Out The Registry The registry is a very important part of Windows because it stores the likes of your emails, downloads and even your desktop wallpaper. It's a very important database which is crucial for the smooth operation of Windows 7, but is constantly getting corrupted which slows Windows down. Many registry files become unreadable and take Windows a lot longer to process, making your system run slower. This is a hidden problem which is constantly making your system run worse and worse.
