If you're moving across town, or out of state, it's important that you do your research. When you look at a new house, take into account whether a house appraiser has given certified appraisals as to the worth of the home. Your realtor should also be familiar with the area, and should be able to provide you with information concerning the local fire department, and school and tax districts.4. Your House: You could be scaling up or scaling down, but either way there are some important points to consider. How many bathrooms do you need? Bedrooms? How much storage do you want? Thought about an attic or basement? Do your teens need an entertainment room, or do your kids need a rumpus room?5. Close inspection: Before you decide to buy, make sure that you get what you pay for. Inspect the craftsmanship of the wood around doors and panels. Check the windows to see how old they are, and gauge whether they might eventually need to be replaced. Don't forget the roof and the back of the house. And look at the garage and any rooms that are unfinished to see if you will want, or need to invest in them.After going through this checklist, you shouldn't feel like you're settling.
