, along with rabbits. According to a renowned vet Dr. Dana Krempels, a light-coloured crust is one of the earliest signs of mange. It is usually found around the exterior of ears, around the toes as well as the facial area. This crust would spread across to the different parts of the body. It causes itching around the affected parts. Rabbits would usually scratch continuously on the affected areas and make it raw. Also, such a way, they are highly susceptible to further bacterial infections.

After the initial scratching and crusting, the symptoms of sarcoptic mange would worsen. There would be significant amount of fur loss on the face and the ears. For the most part, scabies develops patches, open sores and moth-eaten appearances on the skin of rabbits. These small lesions would ooze a lucid watery fluid which dries into crisp layers on the surface of skin. Vets usually warn that rabbits would experience a decrease in the number of white blood cells and most likely, the rabbits would become anaemic as well.

While treating scabies on rabbits, you must always use pet-friendly insecticides and use anti-inflammatory medications to alleviate the symptoms of scabies. Also, you must follow the instructions given out by vets. Antibiotics or topical ointments must be used to treat all forms of secondary infections. There are quite a few natural remedies as well, which would be highly effective to eliminate the mites. You could massage bacon grease on the affected areas in order to clear out the lesions.
